How do I select the right type of Motor Protection Circuit Breaker and Accessories?. Electric motors need protection from phase unbalances, current overload and losses, circuit breakers or MPCBs offer motor protection and prevent short circuits by disconnecting the current. Thermal protection guards against overload, magnetic protection protects against short circuits and faults and phase protection guards against phase loss or imbalance. MCPs or motor circuit protectors only protect against short circuits and generally need an overload relay installing, whereas an MPCB doesn't usually need an overload relay offering magnetic protection and preventing thermal overload.
